Tree Service Hickory NC prunes and trims trees for homeowners, landlords and small commercial properties across Catawba County. Every job follows the same order, a site inspection to identify which limbs need to come out, then a written price before any cut is made. The crew prunes, thins or removes deadwood, then hauls away everything cut. Structural pruning on young trees, canopy thinning on mature ones, deadwood removal, and clearance cuts away from a roofline or power line, we handle all of it.
We work on single-family lots, rental properties and small commercial sites. A bucket truck handles most clearance and canopy work, and climbing gear comes out for limbs a truck cannot reach. Licensed and insured on every job, with a free estimate before you pay for anything.

Why Hickory Trees Need Regular Trimming
Hickory gets about 45 inches of rain a year over roughly 107 days, and the sandy loam soil under most yards here holds a tree’s roots less firmly than denser soil once the ground saturates. A heavy, untrimmed canopy catches more wind and more rain weight than a thinned one. A well-pruned tree can shrug off a storm that drops a limb from a crowded, top-heavy one. Catawba County also sees close to 85 freezing days a year, and each freeze-thaw cycle widens any weak branch union that has not been cut back. Loblolly pine, common across this area, tends to hold dense, top-heavy growth that catches wind hard when it has not been thinned. Water oak and red maple carry a different risk, a codominant trunk with included bark at the union. Structural pruning while the tree is young can often correct that weak union before it becomes a removal problem.

Which Type of Trimming Do You Actually Need?
Four jobs get called “tree trimming” and they are not the same work. Structural pruning on a young tree fixes a weak union or a competing leader while a single cut can still correct it. Wait too long, and that same defect turns into a removal problem. Canopy thinning on a mature tree removes selected interior branches to let wind pass through instead of catching the whole canopy, without changing the tree’s shape. Deadwooding removes dead or dying branches only, usually the fastest and least expensive of the four. Clearance pruning cuts back limbs that have grown into a roofline, a power line or a neighboring structure. A tree with a split trunk or a hollow section needs more than pruning. That is a removal candidate, and the inspection will say so rather than pruning around a problem that will not go away.
